Summary
Identifies patient, uses good technique to obtain specimen using venous or capillary methods, verifies and labels specimen prior to leaving patient. Prioritizes and transports specimens within stated TAT.The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Phlebotomy certification through ASCP, AMT, NHA, ACA or NCCT required
None
Possess knowledge/skill of appropriate blood collection/handling techniques
Interacts with patients according to the Erickson model of development
Moderate to heavy amounts of walking
Light lifting up to 25 pounds, general motion including bending, squatting, reaching, carrying, pushing and pulling
Manual dexterity
Ability to speak plainly
Near visual acuity, ability to discern colors
May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
