Be at the intersection of academics and athletics at one of the nation’s largest and most innovative universities. The Athletic Certification Coordinator supports the academic eligibility certification of student-athletes in compliance with NCAA, Big 12 Conference, Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR), and university regulations. This role serves as a key liaison between University Registrar Services and Sun Devil Athletics, working closely with the Faculty Athletic Representative and Sun Devil Athletics to ensure accurate, timely, and audit-ready certification decisions grounded in institutional academic policy. As part of University Registrar Services, the Coordinator also contributes to maintaining student records, degree progress, and broader student success initiatives.
Essential Duties:
Act as the primary liaison between University Registrar Services and Sun Devil Athletics, building strong working relationships across both teams and with the Faculty Athletic Representative.
Review, screen, analyze, and oversee the certification process for 600+ continuing and incoming student-athletes following NCAA, Big 12 Conference, ABOR, and university regulations.
Maintain accurate academic records, including certifications, degree audits, enrollment status, and graduation progress; enter academic information into appropriate software systems.
Prepare and support required institutional and NCAA reporting, including Academic Progress Rate (APR), Graduation Success Rate (GSR), and academic eligibility reports.
Ensure all certification decisions are fully documented and audit-ready; produce certification spreadsheets and eligibility reports for distribution to relevant stakeholders.
Stay current on NCAA Rules and Regulations, changing laws, and compliance issues; attend ongoing professional development opportunities, including NCAA and conference-related meetings.
Collaborate on cross-functional projects that support the office’s broader mission of student persistence and degree attainment.
Assist with additional Registrar functions, including student records, enrollment, and degree conferral, as needed.
Perform a wide variety of intricate duties requiring attention to detail, timeliness, professionalism, tact, diplomacy, discretion, and sound judgment.

Desired Qualifications:
Experience in higher education student support services, ideally in a registrar, advising, or athletics compliance setting.
Familiarity with NCAA academic eligibility rules (e.g., progress-toward-degree, transfer eligibility) and experience working with or certifying student-athletes.
Knowledge of strategic planning principles and practices as they relate to athletic compliance and student success.
Experience with data tracking, reporting, database management, and analysis tools; proficiency in management software.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail and skill in editing.
Skill in planning, analyzing, coordinating, and establishing priorities on behalf of senior leadership including the Faculty Athletics Representative and Sun Devil Athletics.
Evidence of ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
Customer service experience in team-based, high-volume environments.
Proficiency in technology, including Google Suite, Office 365, and relevant data platforms.
Working Environment:
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse. Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. May be required to perform tasks in the field within and/or across University campuses. Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
This position is not eligible for sponsorship by the Office of University Registrar Services; therefore, the applicant must be eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Subject to ASU policy and dean or vice president-level approval, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement where employees spend a minimum of 60% of their regular work week at the Tempe campus.
