A PRN caregiver in this positionworks varying nightsfrom6:45PM – 7:15AM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Assistnursing caregivers, promote patientcomfortand carry out nursing orders
Transport patients by wheelchair,bedor stretcher from the department/unit.
Conduct EKG and phlebotomy duties.
Attendto patient and family needs and problems.
Assistpatients withactivities of daily living, such as dressing,bathingand hygiene.
Report pertinent informationregardingpatient condition toappropriate nursingstaff.
Assistpatients with tray set up and feeding.
Restock supplies daily and order supplies from Central Supply.
Document care provided in the medical record.
Collect and transport specimens.
Provide RNs/LPNs withaccurateandtimelyintake/output data, vital signs, blood glucose results and other data, note changes from prior measurement and communicate accordingly.
Respond to call lights within five minutes or communicate inability to do so.
Report patient needs to an RN/LPNimmediately.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)or American Red Crossupon or within new hire period
Nursing students:Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificationrequiredprior to hire
Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) considered
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate of an approved Nursing Program orprevioushospital training
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Certification
Six months of experience in an acute care hospital setting
Physical Requirements:
The position requires a considerate amount of physical work not to exceed 50 pounds.
Any workload exceeding 50 pounds will require assistance.
The individual will be required to pull up or reposition patients in bed, lift supplies, place equipment or supports, and push beds throughout the hospital.
The individual must be able to bend over to perform certain duties such as check chest tube drainage, check urine output, etc.
The individual must be able to quickly maneuver throughout halls, stairways and patient rooms in response to hospital emergencies.
Interpretation of environmental input requires visual and auditory skills.
In the event there is a need to evacuate the building, heavy lifting will be required to carry patients to safety.
