As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will perform and interpret tests at all complexity levels. Using your understanding of the theories and technical, procedural and problem-solving aspects of Laboratory Science, you will aid in the search to determine the best mode of care for patients. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to expand your knowledge through extensive hands-on experience with some of the best researchers and specialists.
We will hire our clinical laboratory testing personnel in three different job titles, based on educational background:
Medical Technologist
Medical Lab Technician
Lab Technician
A caregiver in this position worksvaryingevenings from 2:00PM – 10:30PM, including weekends and holidays.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting andmaintainingrecords of patient test results.
Maintain regulatory knowledge and awareness as it pertains to specific job duties.
Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
Assume responsibility for andtake actionregardingany quality control or quality assurance issues as it pertains to specific job duties.
Maintain instruments and equipmentin accordance withmanufacturer’s specifications.
Assume responsibility for good documentation practices andmaintainclear and legible records.
Performproficiencytesting in compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulationsi.e.analyzeproficiencysurvey sample in the same manner as apatient specimens, no communication with other CLIA laboratories, complete record retention andaccuratedocumentation and result reporting.
Assume responsibility for participation in continuing education, professionaldevelopmentandrequiredannual competency assessment.
Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
Identifyproblems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems orimmediatelynotify the General Supervisor, Technical Supervisor, Clinical Consultant, or Laboratory Director.
Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
Potentiallyfunction as an educator and provides instruction and training in theory, technical skills, safety protocols, and the application of laboratory test protocols to students, employees, residents, etc.
Coordinate prioritization,receiptand delivery of laboratory specimens.
Verifyaccuratedocumentationrelativeto specimen processing.
Accept or reject specimens according to established standards.
Prepare specimens for analysis.
Aliquot,transportand distribute specimens.
Maintain tracking information,instrumentationand equipment.
Perform preventative maintenance and record keeping procedures.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Associate’sDegreein a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution
OReducation and training equivalent to anAssociate’s Degreein a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution per the CLIA qualifications for high complexity testing personnel grandfathering clause.
