Occupational Therapists provide many wide-ranging services to a variety of people who have been referred by a physician due to a problem with their ability to perform normal activities of daily living (ADLs).This may be due to physical injury, emotional or developmental problems, stroke, elective surgery, disease processes,agingor birth defects, just to name a few. The goal of OT is to maximize the ability ofeach individualto perform self-care,workand leisure activities to the best of their physical,emotionaland cognitive abilities.Ultimately, thegoal is also to help people re-learn skills needed to live independent,productiveand satisfying lives.
By joining this team as an Occupational Therapist, you will support services across both the acute care inpatient hospital unit and the inpatient rehabilitation unit. This will allow you to work with a wide variety of patients, which can lead to advancing your skills and knowledge even further. By taking on this role, you can be a part of special interest groups as wellas have the chance to take on other opportunities down the line.
A caregiver in this position worksdays from 8:00AM ā4:30PM, including rotating weekends and holidays.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:Ā
Evaluate and treat patients with physical, emotional,cognitiveand/or psychosocial deficits whichimpacttheir abilities to successfully perform independent living skills.
Assesspatient 'sability tosafely and effectively perform independent living skills and design the appropriate plan of care, including type and frequency of treatment.
Implement the treatment plan usingappropriate modalitiesand document subjective and objective findings of patient progress.
Educate the patient and family/caregiver about patient deficits.
Direct and supervise the activities of support personnel.
Actasa clinical instructor orparticipatein the education and evaluation of students.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:Ā
BachelorāsDegreeĀ
Graduate of an Occupational Therapy Program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association
Current Ohio licensure as an Occupational Therapist (OT)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR the American Red CrossĀ
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Experience in a clinical area
Physical Requirements:
Ability to walk without assistive device and to maintain balance despite sudden load in order to support patient from falling.
Ability to meet physical demands characterized at the heavy level defined by 1993 Leonard Matheson and Ministry of Labor.
Ability to lift and reach with arms sufficiently to lift patient's arm and leg during therapeutic treatment program.
Sensation of touch and manual dexterity to be able to palpate muscle tension or to monitor patient pulse.
Visual acuity to observe patient's gross and fine motor movements in order to analyze these movements and to read all patient monitors.
Ability to speak clearly enough to instruct patients and families.
Ability to hear at a conversational level to understand patient's description of symptoms and response to treatment.
