Ultrasound Technologists use imaging devices that emit sound waves to create an image that will help physicians assess and diagnose various conditions. There aredifferent kindsof imaging devices; this includes ultrasounds, sonograms, and echocardiograms.Generally, sonographicimaging devices use a handheld probe, which is moved over the area being surveyed to create a two-dimensional or three-dimensional image. These devices can be used for therapy, diagnosis, and even to guide interventional procedures like biopsies or draining fluid collections.

APRNcaregiver in this position worksvarying days and hours, as needed.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform diagnostic medical ultrasound procedures.
Exercises professional judgment in performance of procedure and patient care, document reasons for any variation in procedure and communicate with referring physician.
Obtain patient history and clinical data for correlation with exams.
Compileexamfor reading by radiologist.
Critique exam for film quality and proper identification.
Scanall required documentation into the RIS system.
Communicate with patients throughoutexam,assistpatientsand explain exam topatientor responsible party.
Comply withOSHA and hospital infection control policies.
Respond to calls on various shifts.
Keep supervisor informed of equipment/safety problems.
Identify, transport,liftandpositionpatients for exams.
Perform duties of a radiologic technologist as required and qualified.
Recognize patient levels of psychosocial development andmodifyapproaches accordingly.
Assess patients for signs/symptoms of abuse or neglect and report findings to radiologist or staff physician.
Control inventory andpurchaseof supplies.
Maintain cleanliness ofroom.
Perform quality assurance duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology
RDMS and RVT registration within18 monthsof appointment to position
Maintain CPR (Basic Life Support certification)
Maintain competencies specific to patient population served
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
One year of experience as an ultrasound technologist
