EMG Technologistsare responsible forperforming nerve conduction studies to evaluate the function of patientsā nerves and muscles. Duties include placing surface electrodes to deliver mild electrical impulses and measuring the resulting nerve and muscle responses. The role may also involve inserting fine needles to record andmonitorcommunication between nerves and muscles, providing critical diagnostic information to support patient care. You will work closely with Neuro-Muscular Neurologists, Spine Physicians, and occasionally Registered Nurses (RNs) to support patient care.You will have the opportunity to collaborate regularly with fellow EMG Technicians to ensureaccuratetesting, support an efficient workflow, and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care.While prior healthcare experienceisnātrequired, a strong understanding of anatomy, the ability to multi-task, and a passion for helping patients are essential.
A caregiver in this position worksfull-time| 7:00amā4:00pm, 7:30amā4:30pm, 8:00amā5:00pm| occasional Saturdays shifts from 7:45amā12:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:Ā
Perform nerve conduction studies for patients.Ā
Assistwith instructing other caregivers, residents,physiciansand technicians in proper laboratory procedures.Ā
Maintain order within the laboratory.Ā
Assistwith researchstudies asassigned.
Analyze designs and executeadditionalnerve conduction studies based oninitialfindings based oninitialresults and knowledge of peripheral neuroanatomy.
Operate the nerve conduction instrumentation and ensure proper adjustments foraccuraterecording procedures.
Select nerves to be studied by reviewing requests and patient history.
Educate patients on EMG examinations.
Perform various administrative functions related to the laboratory.
Obtain patientās EMG reports andtransmitthem to the physician on request.
Mail pieces to referring physicians.
Maintain files on all requests for reports.
Clean and restock EMG rooms and equipment.
Replenish lab supplies in examination rooms.Ā
Use knowledge of Neurophysiology to assess the data's reliability and problem-solve to minimize error.
Relate procedures to the referring diagnosis.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:Ā
HighSchoolDiploma/GED ORanAssociateāsDegreefrom an accredited END programORat least two years of college with human anatomy andPhysiology studyĀ
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross
Must obtain certification as a Registered Nerve Conduction Study Tech within two years of hire
Working knowledge of peripheral neuropathy and neurophysiology
Knowledge of basic physiology,anatomyand science tolocatenerve locations and understand electromyography test resultsĀ
