The Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) will oversee the delivery, campus-specific development, and continuous quality improvement of the undergraduate medical education portfolio for the UMass Chan – Lahey Regional Medical School based at Lahey Hospital Medical Center in Burlington, MA. The Assistant Dean UME role also includes maintaining an active clinical practice at Lahey Hospital Medical Center.Job Description:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities(including but not limited to):
Oversees thecampus-specific component ofdevelopment,implementationand assessmentof the curriculum of the UMass Chan Lahey regional medicalschool campus,including Early Clinical Learning,LEAD@LaheyPathway,Clinical Clerkshipsandrotations,Intersession courses,and Transition to Residency.
Provides guidance,direction, and mentoringon all curricular components for theCurricular and CourseDirectors of Early Clinical Learning, Explorations, Horizons, and the Leadership Pathway.
Workscollaboratively withthe Offices of Student Affairs, Interprofessional Education, Leadership andFaculty Development,andtheCenter for Simulationat the LaheyCampus toachieve seamless integration of the Lahey Leadership Track curriculum into the UMassChan foundationaland clinical curriculum.
Overseesall regional campuscurriculum committees and curriculum stakeholders to ensure that programs, resources, and services are prioritized and tailored appropriately to meet both the needs of learners and the educational mission.
Works withUMassmain and PURCH campus leadership toIdentify and define critical learningobjectivesand outcomes in collaboration with key faculty and leadership in the clinical years, align curriculum and assessment todemonstratethese.
Works closelywithUMass Chan and Laheyinstitutional offices to review trends in curriculum evaluation(educational outcomes and student feedback), highlight opportunities to improve performance and implement related change.
Serve asa liaisonwith UMass Chan andBILH educational partners, as well as other institutional departments in support of core responsibilities.
Oversee outreach and community-based educationprogramsat diverseclinicalsites in conjunction with lead faculty,participatingin faculty development and programmatic assessment.
Manage curriculum calendar development with faculty,administratorsand staff, including periodic adjustments including related technology.
Collaborate with the Director of Simulation Center and education leaders to support the development and implementation of multiple methods for curriculum deliveryand student assessmentin order toenhanceinnovative anddiverse curriculum delivery and student learning.
Contribute to national efforts in improving medical education and educational innovation.
Participate in ongoing and periodic accreditation efforts including LCME and NECHE.
Direct supervision ofappropriate professionalstaff overseeing supported programs includingtheOffice of Education Affairs
Functional supervision of support staff, who help coordinate curriculum committee meetings and processes, program planning andlogistics, update websites,courseand curriculum committee administrator meetings and manage daily administrative needs.
Recruit and prepare faculty or other professionals toparticipateas leaders.
Participate in decisions related toregional campusoffice structure, budget,staffing,and supervision.
Useappropriate technologyin support of all functionsincluding working knowledge of Microsoft teams, PeopleSoft,Oasis,and Canvas.
Perform other duties asrequired.
