Job Description
The School of Human Evolution and Social Change at Arizona State University (ASU) seeks to hire a qualified Collections Inventory Specialist to be responsible, under the guidance of the Lead Collections Manager, to assist with tasks associated with curation for Bureau of Reclamation Roosevelt project collections and others housed at the Center for Archaeology and Society Repository (CASR).
Duties include assisting with supervising student interns and workers, updating collections information and inventories, assessing and enhancing collections housing, and documenting cultural items.
Essential Duties:
Trains and supervises undergraduate students assisting with the inventory of archaeological collections under the Bureau of Reclamation and other collections housed in CASR.
Oversees and assists with the transformation and validation of record inventory data.
Oversees the locating and transport of archaeological objects for inventory.
Assists in supervising the documentation of cultural items by student interns and workers.
Moves and transports materials and objects that could weigh up to 50 pounds, including the storage of items at heights that require the use of a ladder.
Performs duties in both climate-controlled and external spaces.
Other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience working with archaeological objects (1 years).
Supervisory experience with students.
Demonstrated knowledge of the archaeology and material culture, history, and ethnography of the American Southwest.
Knowledge of archaeological field methods.
Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate handling of curated archaeological collections.
Experience working with data management tools such as Excel.
Evidence of effective communication skills.
Experience working independently and collaboratively in a team.
Working Environment:
This position is fully in-person at the Tempe campus in the Alameda building and may involve occasional travel to other buildings on the Tempe campus.
Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office or large collections room setting (for in-person), subject to some extended periods of sitting or standing. Must have visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of a desktop computer; ability to bend, stoop, reach and lift up to 50 pounds. Works from general instructions on standard job duties and specific directions/instructions on new assignments. Ability to clearly and effectively communicate to perform essential functions as well as an ability to use a telephone, computer (monitor, keyboard, and mouse), scanner, printer, fax, and copy machine.
