The Mainframe Systems Programmer provides support for on-going projects that require the installation, testing, and implementation of new operating systems and other 'system' software. Research and evaluation of new software and hardware products, assisting team members and other areas with technical questions and problem resolution. Monitoring and tuning of systems software. Functional knowledge, use of z/OS components and detailed knowledge of support products such as tape management, scheduling, security, monitoring systems, etc.
JOB ROLE SUMMARY
The Mainframe Systems Programmer provides support for ongoing projects that require the installation, testing, and implementation of new operating systems and other 'system' software. Research and evaluation of new software and hardware products, assisting team members and other areas with technical questions and problem resolution. Monitoring and tuning of systems software. Functional knowledge, use of z/OS components and detailed knowledge of support products such as tape management, scheduling, security, monitoring systems, etc.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- 15+years of experience in DB2 Data sharing and Non-data sharing subsystem Upgrade environments.
- Apply planned maintenance refreshes to supported DB2 environments
- Install, support, and customize licensed DB2 V13/12/11 software and related tools in Data Sharing and Non-Data sharing environments
- Performing database backups, restores, reorganizations, run stats, etc. Performing database performance and query tuning.
- Proactively monitoring and maintaining production databases.
- Work with REXX Scripts for mainframe and interaction with DB2 databases
- Provide timely resolution to DB2 software-related problems, including 24/7 Call support.
- Work with technical support teams to identify DB2 software-related problems.
- Receive, apply, and propagate software fixes across supported DB2 platforms, using SMP/E, etc.
- Perform daily system admin-type tasks in support of the DB2 subsystem environments (e.g. DB2 ZPARM, GRANTS, etc.)
- Perform Performance Tuning and Monitoring and maintain & support the DB2 subsystems in a RACF
- Build new DB2 subsystem environments, or relocate existing DB2 subsystem environments upon request
- Work closely with Operations and automation teams in defining operational procedures involving the DB2 subsystems
- Provide technical recommendations involving the DB2 environments and tools upon request.
- Driving the DB2 Project across planning, implementation, post-implementation and client testing, and closure
- Managing the team with incoming workload and ensuring team skill progression
- Use REXX/CLIST for automation of BAU tasks/to customize the panel flow
