Regional Transportation Operations Specialist â Control Tower
Key Responsibilities
This Transportation Operations Specialist role is responsible for managing the performance of a third-party managed service provider that performs load planning and optimization activities in Appliedâs Transportation Management System (TMS). It requires a broad level of understanding in various transportation networks (Bulk Air, Ocean, Bulk Ground, and Parcel shipping) and familiarity with physical, logical, and financial freight flows (Order Management, Warehousing, Transport Compliance, Packaging, etc). This role ensures the effective execution of the Applied Materials Silicon Product Group (SPG) Â Global Freight and Transportation networks through communication externally with the managed services provider and internally with Buyers and Supplier Managers. Specifically, the role will be responsible for the following activities:
- Ensuring that all loads are planned appropriately by the managed service provider and timely in Appliedâs TMS.
- Ensuring that the managed service provider optimizes the underlying logic of Appliedâs TMS to ensure the timely and productive movement of Appliedâs inbound, in-network, and outbound shipments.
- MBR Participation, Carrier Management
- New Volume Onboarding into Appliedâs TMS
Defining Global Processes
All established processes must be applicable across the globe
- Understand the physical, logical, and financial freight flows and process.
- Communication cadence with shipper/suppliers/carriers/within Applied.
- Miscommunication leading to carrier failure is considered a process break (our responsibility).
Manage Service Provider and Carrier SOWs
- Know and uphold Appliedâs expectations of our managed service provider and transportation carriers.
- Work with Global Freight & Transportation Operations and CBM team members if expectations are not met.
Establishing clear & achievable SLAs/KPIs
- Review carrier transit times and performance compared to Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Review agreed transit time as per pricing schedule.
- Work with CBMs on Performance Plans.
- Ensure carrier transit times are correctly reflected in Appliedâs TMS.
Internal Promotions
- Creating visuals/documents on carrier expectations.
- Covering end-to-end process from EDI to Freight Payment.
- Collaboration with Logistics Operations, Connectivity, and Finance Teams.
- Connect with Buyers / Logistics Coordinators to align their expectations from our carriers.
- Be an escalation point for TMS routing issues.
Managed Services Provider Management
Manage Operational Risks
- Ensure that Appliedâs loads are optimally planned by Appliedâs TMS.
- If Appliedâs loads are not systematically planned by Appliedâs TMS, ensure that the managed services provider manually plans loads in a manner that supports transportation requirements.
- Driving Continuous Performance Improvements
- Drive productivity in manual load planning capabilities.
- Understand the root cause of Appliedâs TMS inability to systematically plan loads.
- Work with managed service provider to implement best practices to optimize load planning.
- Learn and disseminate knowledge of TMS best practice implementation.
- Drive consistency on performance
- Identifying areas of improvement
- Manage MBR Action Trackers
POC and Escalation Point TMS Load Planning
- Receive and support escalations related to managed services providerâs TMS load planning and shipment optimization.
- Work with managed services provider meet and exceed service performance expectations and service level agreements.
New Program Launches
- Work with managed services provider to ensure that new network design requirements are mapped appropriately in TMS.
- Work across SPG Global Freight and Transportation Operation team, Logistics Commodity Business Management, Global Supply Chain materials purchasing organization, and other Applied business segments to ensure all operational expectations of new network design requirement are well understood and met.
Minimum Requirements: Education & Experience
- Bachelorâs Degree
- Relevant years of experience in Logistics and Transportation Operations
Knowledge & Skills:
- Communication skills at all levels.
- Demonstrate sense of urgency.
- Accustomed to taking accountability for ensuring that projects are completed on time.
- Identifies and resolves technical, operational, and organizational problems.
