In this role, you will help lead the UX portion of our product development processformulti-disciplinary agile R&D teamsconsisting of product managers, developers, data analytics specialists, and service operations agents — not to mention ourcustomers— to define, design and test workflows that empowermedical providers, coders, and billersto effectively manageand performcore claim preparation, submission,and resolution tasks.We’reworking to turn acomplexand sometimes cumbersome set of processes into a more unified, intuitive, satisfying, and empowering experience for our users.This role is based in Boston,MA.

Job Responsibilities
Plan and conduct primary and secondary research efforts
Synthesize your research to arrive ata clear framing of the problemstobe solved
Drive alignment through strong product design narratives
Design scalable, web-based product experiences
Produce detailed designconceptsand specifications for team projects
Identifyopportunities for improvement in existing products
Make tradeoffs and decisions about project scope, design strategy, and implementation
Seek out and incorporate feedback from users and cross-functional teams
Promote anddemonstratedesign best practices for product owners, engineers, and more junior design collaborators
Design Strategy & Planning
Build deep understanding of user workflows and domain needs through research and analysis
Own the information architecture and end-to-end experience for a major product area
Define high-level workflows and experience frameworks to guide Agile teams
Influence product roadmaps by aligning design vision with business and technical priorities
Ground design decisions in user research, data, and success metrics
Facilitate cross-functional teams in building deep empathy for users and understanding real-world needs
Design Execution
Frame complex, user-centered problems andfacilitatealignment
Create sketches, wireframes, and prototypes to communicate andvalidateideas
Partner with Product and Engineering to ensure delivered solutions meet design intent and quality standards
Qualifications
5+ years of professional design experience, preferablyincludingenterprise, financial, or healthcaresystemsrequired
Experience leading significant product design initiatives, ideallyin the enterprise space
Experiencedrivingcross-functional, cross-product, and/orcross-geo collaborations
Experience solvinghighly complexproblems for users
Self-directed and comfortable making decisions without perfect information
Interest in developing a deep understanding of the US healthcare space
Interest in or experience working with agile/scrum teams
Ability to articulate your rationale for design decisions
Portfoliodemonstratingexcellentunderstandingof problem framing and design communication, great interaction design skills, andattention to detail
Expected Compensation
$130,000 - $222,000The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates. Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
