The Toronto Star has one vacancy in the Columnist classification in the Editorial Department. Columnists can be assigned to any newsroom department across a variety of assignments. The initial assignment will be in Business.
Toronto Star columnists lead the public debate on the important issues of the day with well-reasoned arguments and insightful observations, influencing decision-makers and engaging Star readers.
The successful candidate will be a deeply-sourced and experienced journalist who brings us unique angles and ideas based on their reporting and personal experience and who can turn those ideas into compelling columns written with perspective and insight that engage readers. Beyond commentary, a columnist is expected to break news, provide feature storytelling, and build a personal connection with readers.
The initial assignment is to engage a readership centred in the GTA with business, finance, housing and economic commentary, opinion and analysis delivered through a variety of platforms. The Star鈥檚 business section is focused on holding businesses and organizations to account for how they treat consumers, workers, the environment and the communities they operate in, and this should be reflected in the tone and approach of pieces.
