We are currently recruiting for a Forensic Toxicology Apprentice to join our fantastic team at our site based in Feltham, and it is a truly exciting time to begin your career with our first-class business.
The Forensic Toxicology Apprenticerole is a 4 year programme, which will require balancing work with learning. Your day-to-day work and training will be supported by studying towards a fully funded BSc Chemical Science degree at Manchester Metropolitan University (more information can be found here). The main learning will be completed once a week online, with a residential week once a year.
Your day-to-day role will start with the receipt, registration and sample preparation of forensic exhibits. You will then progress over your 4 year course into working in different areas within the toxicology laboratory gaining skills in different extraction methods, analytical instrumentation and processing of case data.
If you are passionate about a rewarding career in Forensic testing and want to gain vital experience whilst obtaining your degree, then this is a great opportunity to join a well-established and successful market-leading company with over 30 years’ experience in providing Forensic Services to the Police forces of England and Wales, as well as other commercial organisations and public sector bodies.
Due to the highly sensitive nature of the work, applicants should note that security clearance is required for this role. To gain security clearance you must have five years continuous residency in the UK. Security clearance is undertaken by a third party to police personnel vetting standards (NPPV/3 and SC), as such any criminal convictions may prevent you from gaining security clearance. Further information on the security clearance process and requirement can be found at https://www.warwickshire.police.uk/police-forces/warwickshire-police/areas/warwickshire-police/about-us/about-us/police-national-vetting-service/. In addition, all successful applicants may be required to undertake drug and alcohol testing prior to and during their employment.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
The successful candidate will be expected to complete all required assignments and off-the-job learning during your 20% dedicated study time. You will keep accurate records of your studies and liaise with your skills coach and mentor to ensure progress on your course is maintained. In addition to your studies, you will be responsible for carrying out scheduled tasks in a timely manner in line with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Health and Safety requirements.
You will be required to travel to the University site during your block release and for other agreed activities.
You will be accountable for continuity of items when working on them, ensuring sample integrity and chain of custody are maintained.
