Under the supervision of the Therapy Manager, the Occupational Therapist I is part of a multidisciplinary team responsible for the rehabilitation and the promotion of health and wellness to those who have or are at risk for developing an illness, injury, disease, disorder, condition, impairment, disability, activity limitation or participation restriction. Responsibilities include evaluating, planning, preparing, implementing, and documenting individually designed examinations and treatments intended to help patients achieve their highest level of independence,taking into accountsafety and environmental adaptations, and including activities of daily living and vocational training.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:
1) Patient Care Examination:
▪ Examines patient usingappropriate testingmethods and instrumentation, appropriately records and interprets all findings, andidentifiespatient needs.
▪ Formulates a detailed assessment based upon findings of the examination.
▪ Develops treatment plan and patient outcomes, incorporating the input of the patient, their family and other health professionals. Ensures that the plan and outcomes are functional, time-based, and measurable, and incorporates diagnosis, prognosis, physical/mentalstatusandanticipatedlifestyles.
2) Treatment Planning and Intervention:
▪ Safely and effectively implements the treatment intervention. Applies sound clinical judgment and skill.
▪ Engages a high degree of patient motivation and cooperation in treatment, asevidencedby patient compliance with treatment intervention.
▪ Provides patient/family education during therapy and in preparation for discharge.
▪ Conducts ongoing assessments of the patient’s status and revises treatment intervention, goals & outcomes asappropriate.
3) Discharge Planning:
▪ Initiates discharge planning. Incorporates patient/family inputinthe education process. Participates in multidisciplinary patient care planning.
▪ Consults with other allied health professionals as needed.
▪ Discontinues unproductive treatment to patients where indicated. Transfers patient to nursing or otherappropriate staffwhen occupational therapy services are no longerrequired, or when the patient has achieved their treatment goals and outcomes.
▪ Documents discharge summary per department policy.
4) Patient Care Documentation:
▪ Thoroughly and accuratelymaintainsall medical record documentationin accordance withthe department policy and procedures.
▪ Documents theinitialevaluation, daily treatment notes,reassessmentsand discharge summaries in the medical record according to the standards defined in the department policy and procedure.
5) Productivity / statistics
▪ Meets department standards for productivity.
▪ Delegates tasks to support staff whenappropriate.
▪ Daily statistics are completed by the end of the business dayin accordance withthe department policy.
▪ Applies a thorough knowledge of Quality Improvement Initiatives within the department andorganization, andassistsin data collection.
6) Training, Education, and Information Sharing
▪ Attends internal and external educational programs and readsappropriate professionaljournals,in order tomaintainand enhance Occupational Therapy skills and clinical outcomes.
▪ Shares knowledge and skills with co-workers.
7) Career Development
▪ Develops andmaintainsoccupational therapy skills and knowledge per the Lahey Rehabilitation Services Career Ladder as described in the document ‘Rehabilitation Services Career Ladder”.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:BS in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
Licensure, Certification, Registration:Active, or valid temporary MA Occupational Therapy license.
American Heart Association – Basic Life Support (BLS) certified.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
Knowledge of Occupationaltherapy theoryandpractice.
Ability toobserve, assess and record objective findings,reactionsand progress. Skills in critical judgement and thinking.
Ability to effectively communicate medical information, test results, diagnoses, and/or proposed treatment in a manner easily understood by the patient. Clear and effective oral and written communication.
Knowledge of Occupational therapy services,facilitiesand equipment.
