The American Red Cross is seeking a Chief Development Officer to support the Kentucky Region. This is an in-office position, and the successful candidate will be expected to report to the regional HQ office in Louisville daily.⯠The position also requires some travel for face-to-face meetings with donors, staff, and other constituents. Incumbents must be able to travel within the region as needed.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:Â
The Regional Chief Development Officer (RCDO) will be responsible for strengthening and growing the donor base and the development program to meet assigned financial goals. You will support the Regional Executive to drive a strong revenue-oriented culture based on market-driven targets. âŻYou will lead a development team in planning, managing and implementing fund development strategies for the Region and willâŻmaintain their own portfolio of assigned major donors and prospects and personally makes solicitations. âŻThis is a highly visible, externally facing role and will represent the Region in cultivating donors with the greatest capacity.   This role is not eligible for relocation assistance.

Develop and execute annual and multi-year fundraising strategies for the region. Grow annual revenue in the short-term, while diversifying the donor sponsorship base towards longâterm sustainability.Â
Lead focused growth by working directly with top donor prospects in coordination with the Regionâs Development Staff.Â
Develop a written plan and implement a program to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward appropriate donors at the $5,000 level or higher, with an emphasis on maximizing revenue for the American Red Cross. âŻÂ
Act as a senior leader in the Region and direct the Regional Development team with respect to strategic decisions for the organization.âŻÂ
Accountable for achieving or exceeding Regionâs minimum fundraising target and managing to meet the fundraising expense target. âŻRevenue target may increase due to major domestic disasters. âŻÂ
Cultivate relationships and serve as the primary staff liaison for representatives of large corporations and foundations for solicitation and stewardship purposes. âŻCollaborate with national headquarters development and donor recruitment staff to identify and maximize fundraising opportunities. âŻServe as the primary staff liaison for the Boardâs Philanthropy Committee. âŻOrient new Board members to their fundraising responsibilities and ensure they receive the necessary support to be successful volunteer fundraisers.Â
Work with Leadership to determine reporting structure for the fundraising staff in the Region based on the Regional structure and ensure the use of best practices for measuring staff membersâ performance. âŻÂ

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:Â
Bachelor's degree required with a minimum 7 years of fundraising leadership experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required. Experience with increasing philanthropic revenue from diverse constituencies, developing and implementing broad-based fundraising programs, and knowledge of âbest practicesâ in development. Â
 Advanced degree is highly desirable.Â
A current valid driver's license and good driving record is required.Â
5 years of management experience (Management experience cannot be substituted)Â
Ability to relate well and work effectively with multiple constituencies and audiences. âŻExcellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills. âŻKnowledge of office systems: âŻMS Office preferred and fundraising database systems (e.g. Raiserâs Edge, Salesforce.com). âŻAbility to work on a team within a collaborative environment and ensure the highest customer service orientation.Â
Requires frequent travel within the Region. Occasional travel within the Division and to Washington, DC.âŻÂ
