Akron General’s 4100 Cardiac Telemetry/Renal Unit cares for patients with conditions such as CHF, ESRD, cardiac arrythmia, acute coronary syndrome and multiple other comorbidities, and performs peritoneal dialysis.This unit gets many ICU transfersand requires caregivers who areseekingto work with complex cardiac patients. As a Patient Care Nursing Assistant (PCNA) on the team, youare responsible forperforming various patient careassistancetasks alongside a supportive RN. In this role, you will exemplify the Cleveland Clinic Values and Guest Service standards, ensuring patients receive the best, top-quality support they need to thrive. A caregiver in this position worksdaysfrom7:00AM – 3:30PM,including every other weekend and 3 holidays per year.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Prepare units, patient rooms, and patient beds for receiving patient admission, returning surgical patients,transferor emergencies.
Provide and document assigned care, such as bathing, changing/refreshing bed linens, dressing/undressing, feeding, etc.
Take and document the patient's temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry,weightand height.
Perform treatment procedures, such as venous blood draws, enemas, application of ice and heat packs, non-sterile compresses, skin preps, setting up oxygen equipment, bed scale weights, setting up overhead trapeze and Buck’s traction.
Assistwith pre-operative and post-operative care, such as turning and positioning patients with proper body mechanics, applying/utilizingspecialequipmentand ambulating the patient as directed in a safe, prescribed manner.
Assistandaccompanypatients during admission,transferand discharge.
Perform hourly safety rounds,anticipatepatientneedsand respond to patient call lights promptly.
Collect, properlylabeland transport specimens toproperarea.
Assistin keeping patient rooms in order, report equipment that is out of order, clean equipment and inventory and distribute unit linen and supplies.
Document patient care in the electronic medical record.
Complete ongoing competency requirements, educationprogramsand mandatory training tomaintaincertification and/or licensure.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
HighSchoolDiploma or GED
Basic Life Support (BLS)certificationthrough American Heart Association (AHA)or American Red Cross upon hire or withinnew hire period
Prior job or educational experience providing basic computer knowledge and skills
Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)
One year of recent acute care experience
Physical Requirements:
Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
