At AECOM, we are recruiting a Senior Civil Design Engineer to join us in our Dublin office.
Here’s what you’ll do:
Your day-to-day will include but not be limited to the following tasks and responsibilities:
The Senior Civil Design Engineer will lead the Civil Assurance function across the Infrastructure Department portfolio, providing expert technical advice, assurance, compliance oversight, approvals, and due diligence for all civil engineering assets. The role will have a particular focus on airfield civil infrastructure, ensuring that projects meet defined requirements and are functional, efficient, and safe.
The role will also be responsible for developing and implementing a Technical Assurance Framework for civil infrastructure across the portfolio. This includes coordinating with the technical team to review designs produced by Framework Design Consultants and Contractors, ensuring technical acceptability, compliance with relevant standards, and constructability.
The Senior Civil Design Engineer will ensure that infrastructure projects comply with the required technical design standards, legislative requirements, and Employer Requirements (ER) throughout the design and delivery process.
Programme Requirements, Standards & Performance
Ensure designs and contract documentation are delivered in line with programme timelines, quality standards, and cost objectives set by the Contracting Entity, while complying with best-in-class governance and control procedures within the programme/project execution framework.
Undertake technical assurance and due diligence reviews at key governance stage gates.
Assess civil engineering requirements across programme projects to ensure feasibility and alignment with the Contracting Entity’s objectives.
Ensure Employer Requirements (ER) reflect client needs, programme objectives, and defined performance specifications.
Work closely with programme teams to ensure contractor compliance with approved civil designs during construction phases.
Technical Guidance
Oversee civil engineering inputs across programmes, ensuring infrastructure and facility designs comply with relevant codes of practice, ICAO/EASA standards, and international best practice.
Evaluate project lifecycle costs as part of the design management process in collaboration with Commercial and Contract Management teams.
Contribute to value engineering and cost optimisation initiatives.
Implement and maintain robust quality management systems for civil engineering design processes.
Audit technical processes and procedures relating to civil engineering across the Infrastructure team.
Ensure audit and inspection findings are clearly documented and reported to enable timely and targeted corrective actions.
Support the development of a high-performance culture within the civil engineering team.
Contribute to the development of quality standards for testing, inspections, and technical evaluations.
Ensure civil design solutions respond fully to user requirements and client briefs, while meeting planning, regulatory, and statutory requirements, including ICAO/EASA standards and relevant airport construction directives.
Benchmark against leading UK and European airports to adopt and implement industry best practices.
Ensure works are designed and phased to minimise operational disruption while maintaining constructability and cost efficiency.
Design Assurance & Procurement Support
Provide oversight and guidance to the civils team in:
Reviewing external design packages to ensure completeness and technical suitability.
Reviewing consultants’ work and contractor submissions across assigned projects.
Preparing tender documentation for the procurement of external consultants.
Supporting the procurement of civil design services and contractor packages.
