AECOM is currently seeking an experienced Senior Radio Systems Engineer to join our growing team in support of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) in the Arlington, VA area.
The primary role of the Senior Radio Systems Engineer is to provide design, engineering, programmatic and general technical expertise in support of WMATA’s mission critical radio system technologies and operations. The Senior System Integration Engineer must be familiar with the design of Land Mobile Radio systems, IP network protocols and interfaces, event/fault management systems, telecommunications networks and system lifecycle planning principles.
Major Roles and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Coordinates and delivers technical leadership on mid- to large-scale projects
- Builds and maintains strong client relationships while supporting business development efforts
- Guides department initiatives to expand technical capabilities and best practices
- Contributes specialized expertise to studies, planning, and design within their discipline
- Reviews, approves, and signs off on technical work to ensure quality and compliance
- Serves as a recognized subject matter expert in one or more technology areas
- Develops engineering budget estimates and project schedules for complex, large-scale projects
- Define and/or verify technical requirements for various land mobile radio system solutions and other wireless networks for transit use
- Develop and track technical requirement compliance through traceability matrices and key performance indicators
- Support design, engineering and validation of in-building RF DAS solutions;
- Support network integration of WMATA radio systems with other WMATA enterprise networks working in conjunction with IT resources
- Provide technical expertise to advance successful integration and cutover of the Motorola system components including the network core, consoles and RF sites
- Liaise with external and internal stakeholders to ensure all interfaces to the radio infrastructure are being developed, tested and commissioned to the interface specific requirements;
- Perform onsite surveys and assessments through data gathering, equipment inspection, tours and stakeholder interviews with a focus on system design, technical and operational workflows, technology and infrastructure
- Support development of WMATA’s Radio Operations and Maintenance (O&M) structures including technical tools, monitoring and response capabilities, staffing requirements, consistent with industry principles and fostering high availability outcomes
- Analyze network event, fault and traffic data in conjunction with vendor and WMATA staff with the objective of implementing reliability and system performance transparency
- Develop and/or review scopes of work for radio system and integration vendors
- Develop technical specifications for WMATA’s LMR and other wireless solutions
- Assist in developing long-range strategies for technical migration, identifying program deficiencies, and proposing remediation strategies
- Develop fallback and disaster recovery methodology and procedures
- Support field reviews and site audits with WMATA staff to assess conditions and design considerations
- Support development of maintenance plans and procedures
- Support correction action and state of good repair programs
