The Assistant General Manager â Cost (Civil) will lead the costing, estimation, and costâcontrol function for civil projects. The role requires strong expertise in BOQ preparation, rate analysis, project budgeting, tendering, vendor cost evaluation, and monitoring of project cost performance. The candidate will work closely with project, planning, procurement, and finance teams to drive cost efficiency and ensure project profitability.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cost Estimation & Budgeting
- Prepare detailed BOQs, rate analysis, and cost estimates for civil works including structural, finishing, infrastructure, and allied services.
- Develop project budgets, aligning with drawings, specifications, and execution methodology.
- Review cost estimates received from consultants/contractors and validate assumptions.
2. Cost Control & Monitoring
- Track projectâwise cost vs. budget, monitor deviations, and highlight risks proactively.
- Analyze material consumption, labor productivity, equipment utilization, and overheads.
- Conduct site cost audits and reconciliation of quantities with drawings and DPRs.
3. Tendering & Contracts
- Support tender preparation including quantity takeâoff, rate breakdowns, and technical-commercial evaluation.
- Evaluate vendor/contractor quotations for cost competitiveness.
- Assist in contract finalization, change orders, and claim management.
4. Variance Analysis & Reporting
- Perform monthly variance analysis (material, labor, subcontracting, overheads).
- Prepare MIS, dashboards, and cost performance reports for management review.
- Support management in decisionâmaking for project revisions, reâbudgeting, and cost optimization.
5. CrossâFunctional Collaboration
- Work with project teams to evaluate site progress and cost impact of design changes.
- Coordinate with procurement for rate benchmarking and cost negotiations.
- Liaise with consultants for clarifications, drawings, and revised quantities.
6. Process Improvement
- Implement best practices in cost tracking, budgeting templates, and cost control processes.
- Introduce digital tools for project cost monitoring and reporting.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering, construction methodologies, and project execution norms.
- Expertise in BOQ preparation, rate analysis, quantity takeâoff, and contracting.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, AutoCAD, and costâmanagement tools (CANDY, Primavera, ERP systems, SAP, etc.).
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
