Turner & Townsend is seeking an Associate Director of Project Management (Civil Design Lead – SME) to join our team. This role serves as a key member of the management team, supporting the Director of Project Management in driving growth, technical excellence, and profitability across the business unit. The Civil Design Lead provides subject‑matter expertise in civil engineering for data center development projects, oversees design consultants, ensures regulatory compliance, and leads the successful delivery of complex infrastructure programs.
Responsibilities:
Client & Business Leadership
- Support the Director of Project Management in managing new and existing client relationships, driving revenue through new work generation and contract renewals.
- Identify and act on cross‑selling opportunities; partner with senior leadership to promote Turner & Townsend across the U.S.
- Develop new business opportunities with existing and new clients, including diversification into emerging markets.
- Prepare and deliver client presentations, including technical topics related to civil engineering and data center development.
- Attend client interviews to present service offerings and technical capabilities.
Project & Program Delivery
- Serve as the civil engineering subject‑matter expert (SME) for data center development projects, ensuring technical quality, regulatory compliance, and alignment with client standards.
- Lead and oversee civil engineering design efforts, including site due diligence, site test fits, grading, utilities, stormwater, roadway improvements, and municipal coordination.
- Manage a team of engineering consultants, reviewing and approving engineering plans, specifications, schedules, and design deliverables.
- Monitor project progress, enforce safety and quality standards, and proactively identify risks, material requirements, and mitigation strategies.
- Provide technical guidance during construction activities and support the Innovation & Engineering team on complex design matters.
- Lead a small project management team responsible for planning and executing infrastructure projects across corporate campus environments (utilities, roadways, bike paths, intersections, transit, etc.).
- Provide program‑level oversight of a portfolio of infrastructure projects, including coordination with external project managers delivering work within the district.
- Liaise with municipal authorities and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance and timely approvals.
Operational & Financial Management
- Provide weekly updates on project status, staffing, risks, and key issues.
- Utilize industry‑standard tools to track margins, forecasts, and financial performance across commissions.
- Ensure accurate and timely client invoicing and follow up on accounts receivable.
- Support bid teams and lead proposal development efforts in collaboration with business generation and senior management teams.
- Support the Director of PM in interviewing and selecting prospective candidates.
People Leadership
- Provide effective line management, coaching, and mentoring to assigned staff to support their professional and career development.
- Foster a collaborative, solutions‑focused work environment that promotes continuous improvement and technical excellence.
- Promote adoption of best practices, industry advancements, and process improvements across the team.
