We have an opening for a Nevada Experiment Integration Manager to support sub-critical experiments and other programmatic testing efforts at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). You will work with the Nevada test director to be responsible for overseeing the execution of experiments and leading the fielding and execution teams. Experimental activities are conducted throughout the NNSS and include extensive testing and operations at the U1a Complex and the Device Assembly Facility (DAF). This role requires a strong partnership with other National Laboratories and the NNSS Management and Operations (M&O) organization. You will also interface with the Nevada Field Office (NFO) and be expected to represent LLNL programmatic interests at NNSS. Programmatically, you will report to the Subcritical Experiment Program Group Leader within the Weapon Physics and Design Program. Administratively this position is in the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED), within the Engineering Directorate. DTED supports the Weapon Physics and Design (WPD) Program within the Strategic Deterrence (SD) Principal Directorate. This position is based in Nevada.
Depending on your assignment, this position may offer a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence. You may have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week.
You will
- Provide leadership and technical guidance to a large team of engineers, scientists, and technicians to ensure efficient operations and successful execution of current and future experiments.
- Develop integrated execution plans for highly complex dynamic experiments, detailing work scope, defining schedule, and negotiating shared resources across numerous organizations, including piloting change, developing new ideas and innovative methods, and modifying various approaches.
- Participate in design and operations reviews to inform experiment plans and configurations, provide input on facility and operations interfaces, and ensure the experiment team is ready and authorized to conduct work safely.
- Facilitate planning efforts with WPD integrated experiment teams and verify experiment requirements and engineering specifications are met in support of programmatic objectives.
- Monitor defined schedules by tracking project progress and providing regular updates to programmatic leadership regarding milestones, plans, and moderately complex to complex resourcing/technical problems that could significantly affect costs or schedules.
- Interface regularly with the NFO and NNSS M&O to prioritize, coordinate and authorize work activities across multiple laboratory agencies, functional work groups and facility teams, while ensuring rigorous coordination and synchronization across organizations.
- Interface with NNSS operations and facility management to ensure compliance with safety and security programs and procedures.
- Ensure successful implementation of requirements for Conduct of Operations, Work Control, Training and Qualification, Issues Management, Readiness, and all applicable laboratory Safety Management Programs.
- Complete the training qualification as a Test Director.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
