We have an opening for a Technical Coordinator. Under general supervision, you will provide technical and administrative support for the acquisition, fabrication, assembly, and maintenance of electronic instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and mechanical equipment and hardware for a range of experiments and projects. You will work in a hands鈥憃n, team鈥憃riented environment, collaborating with engineers, technologists, designers, machinists, and external vendors to plan, execute, and document technical activities. Work may involve Beryllium, radioactive/fissile materials, other hazardous materials, and classified parts and documents. This position is in the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED), within the engineering directorate.
This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.
This position will be filled at either the 538.2 or 538.3 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.
In this role you will
- Coordinate and support multiple technical projects and activities with frequently changing requirements and priorities, ensuring schedule, technical, and documentation needs are met.
- Support acquisition and fabrication of general electronics instrumentation, hardware and data acquisition systems, and mechanical equipment and hardware for the Superblock (SBK) or other Nuclear Material Engineering areas
- Collaborate with designers, technicians, machinists, engineers, and vendors on multiple moderately complex projects, sometimes involving hazardous or classified materials, to ensure technical requirements are understood and met.
- Process internal fabrication packages through LLNL fabrication facilities, tracking status and coordinating with fabrication shops and requesters.
- Review drawings, electrical schematics, engineering notes, sketches, and related technical information to screen part sources, verify technical requirements, and support material and process selection.
- Review vendor proposals for fabrication processes, pricing, and delivery schedules, and provide feedback or recommendations to project leads.
- Maintain accurate records and systems documentation, including procurement status, fabrication progress, equipment maintenance activities, and experimental or operational data as needed.
- Provide Technical Release Representative (TRR) services requiring in鈥慸epth knowledge of purchasing requirements, regulations, and LLNL business practices.
- Coordinate programmatic equipment maintenance, including:
- Tracking vendor maintenance subcontracts
- Scheduling routine and non鈥憆outine service
- Working with administrative staff to ensure proper vendor badging, training, and onsite access
- Support facility related and technical functions such as maintenance, testing, and upgrades to equipment control and interlock systems in coordination with engineering staff.
- Ensure that support and experimental areas are kept clean, uncluttered, and in a state of readiness for ongoing operations and experiments.
- Strictly adhere to laboratory environment, safety and health (ES&H), security, and business practice requirements and policies, working safely with hazardous materials and around experimental hardware.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In addition at the 538.3 level
- Prepare technical procurement packages for mechanical and electromechanical fabrications, including specifications, statements of work, quality assurance requirements, and inspection criteria.
- Monitor procurement deliverables and act as a primary technical interface between LLNL and suppliers, including schedule tracking, milestone reviews, and resolution of technical issues during fabrication and delivery.
- Make independent decisions on fabrication alternatives, supplier selections, and substitute hardware and materials using LLNL guidelines, techniques, and procedures.
- Manage equipment maintenance databases and spare parts inventory, ensuring traceability, availability of critical spares, and alignment with program requirements.
- Provide advanced technical coordination on complex systems and experiments, including planning sequences of work, selecting methods, and helping guide technical staff on implementation details.
