Job Summary:
The High Tension Electrician will work as part of the Campus Services Electrical Distribution Group. The position is involved in all aspects of installing, operating, metering, and maintaining Harvard University鈥檚 low- and medium-voltage distribution systems, ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of electric power to the campus.
Position Description:
- Work with electrical distribution systems and equipment (up to 15KV) that include, but is not limited to, underground manholes and ductbanks, control wiring and power cable systems, distribution type transformers, air and gas filled primary disconnect switches, power circuit breakers and switchgear, capacitor banks, power fuses, stationary control battery banks, protective relaying and metering, and electrical enclosures and controls.
- Must observe and comply with all standard safety codes and practices and perform work in accordance with recognized trade and University standards.
- Performs other core skills of the trades and related duties as required.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stoop and bend repeatedly and work on hands and knees and other awkward positions for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and to push, pull and transport piping and equipment in excess of 200 lbs. with others (may use chain falls and come along for heavier lifting).
- Must be able to routinely walk to and from various buildings or work sites carrying tools, equipment, and other essentials.
- Must be able to work alone, in confined spaces and extreme temperatures, climb multiple sets of stairs, work off ladders, staging, lifts or other elevated platforms.
