Expressive Arts Therapy (EXA) is a multi-arts, integrative approach using visual arts, music, drama, dance, writing, and play to promote healing, personal growth, and self-discovery, helping individuals access emotions, build resilience, and find new ways to communicate feelings that are hard to verbalize. As an Expressive Arts Therapist, you willwork with patients in both a group setting and one-on-oneusing various approaches toengagedifferent senses, safely explore difficult emotions, reduce stress, and heal from trauma. Helping patients with their mental health will help them to have a better quality of life. This is a hands-on opportunity that will allow you to advance your skills with each patient interaction. A caregiver in this position works days from 8:00AM â 4:30PM. No weekends or holidays.
Floating between Akron General and Stow, Bath and Green Health and Wellness Centers will berequired, as needed.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:Â
Administerappropriate assessments.
Contribute to andparticipatein the development of the interdisciplinary treatment plan.
Develop, administer andadaptprograms and treatment procedures to assigned patients on the basis of assessed needs and the interdisciplinary treatment plan.
Plan andimplementtreatment groups that are organized,creativeand therapeutic to the group members.
Set andmaintainappropriate limitsandmanagedisruptive behavior according to Akron General Medical Centers policies and procedures to ensure patient safety.
Communicate withappropriate multidisciplinarystaff ona timelybasis, any significant issues raised during the treatment group.
Provide patient education and instruct the patient or family in functionalactivities.
Make necessary adaptations in teaching tofacilitatepatient understanding.
Monitor and document patient comprehension and compliance with treatment.
Document pertinent patient information in a concise and legible format andenterit into the medical recordin a timely manner.
Participate in making referrals, coordinatingtreatmentand discharge planning in the multidisciplinary approach to patient management.
Assume responsibility forappropriate mandatoryand continuing professional education.
Actively contribute to andsupportinterdisciplinary professional cohesion, physical maintenance and material management of the Center for Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
Screen all assigned patients for appropriateness to the partial hospitalization program.
Complete intake evaluation and assessments on assigned patients.
Identifiesappropriate problems, needs and goals ofpatientand develop an individualized care plan.
Provide ordirectpatient care from admission through discharge.
Plan andattendmultidisciplinary conferences.
Participate in quality assurance activities to evaluate the effectiveness of patient care.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:Â
Masterâs Degree in Expressive Arts Therapy OR completion of accredited Expressive Arts Therapy program
Licensed as a Professional Counselor with eligibility for the Art Therapy Credentials Board registration within 12 months of hire
OR currentregistration to practice as an Expressive Arts Therapist in the State of Ohio
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
One year of Art Therapy experience
EPIC experience
Physical Requirements:
Adequate physical and mental health in order to provide all types of treatment.
