MammographyTechnologists operate a mammography unit to produce images of the breasts for diagnostic purposes under the direction of a physician.They explain the procedure to patients, position and immobilize the patient’s breast in the unit, andobservethe scanning process. This involvesmonitoringthe video display of the area being scanned and adjusting the density or contrast to improve picture quality. MammographyTechnologists then review and evaluate the film or image recording plate todetermineif the images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes. Throughout thiswhole process,MammographyTechnologists use radiation safety measures and protection devices tocomply withgovernment regulations and to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
APRNcaregiver in this position worksasneededdays from 7:30AM – 4:00PM or 8:00AM – 4:30PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide mammography screening, diagnostic and interventionalproceduresand patient care services at defined levelstopatients.
Review mammography requisition and computer exam forms todeterminethe type of examrequired.
Position patients,determinethe exposurefactorsandoperatemammography equipment.
Review processedimagestodeterminequality and the need foradditionalimages.
Educate patientsregardingprocedures,equipmentand the exam.
Ensure patients' safety and comfort during and after the exam.
Acquire, archive,transmitandprintimages via CAD and PACS.
Completeafter-hourstransmission of images andappropriate paperwork.
Report any malfunctions to help desk and PACS Administrator.
Processes billing via RIS.
Assistwithall policies and procedures required by local,stateand federal law and with compliance or credentialing bodies (ACR, MQSA, Medicare, Medicaid, FDA, etc.).
Assistwith instrument calibration and records.
Perform equipment checks toassureproper function of and notify clinical engineering of any equipment malfunctions.
Ensure exam rooms are adequately supplied with linen and related medical supplies.
Attend periodic in-service programs andparticipatein professional affiliation sessions.
Rotate through all diagnostic imaging modalities,sitesand/or locations, as needed.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology
Registered Technologist credentialed by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists R.T.(R) (ARRT), in good standing
Certification in Mammography: R.T.(R) (M) (ARRT)
Current state of Ohio licensure (RL)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certificationthrough the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
Knowledge of anatomy and related pathologic processes
Successful completion of40 hoursof mammography training
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
One year of experience as a General Radiologic Technologist
Physical Requirements:
Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
Must be able to lift or assist with lifting patients of varying weight and manipulate equipment daily.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
