We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Apparel Costing Engineer to join our Taipei office. This role will focus on validating marker and pattern efficiency to ensure accurate fabric consumption across our apparel product lines. Working closely with our apparel cut-and-sew vendors, the Apparel Costing Engineer will play a key role in improving cost accuracy, optimizing material usage, and supporting margin goals.
What you'll get to do:
- Validate fabric consumption by reviewing and analyzing markers, patterns, and yields from vendors.
- Audit vendor-provided fabric utilization reports to ensure accuracy and alignment with company standards.
- Partner with design, technical development, and sourcing teams to identify opportunities to improve marker efficiency and reduce fabric waste.
- Collaborate with cut-and-sew vendors to review and approve consumption calculations during development and production.
- Provide cost engineering insights during product development, ensuring accurate costing inputs tied to fabric efficiency.
- Create benchmarks and maintain internal databases of consumption norms by product category, fabric type, and vendor.
- Recommend improvements in pattern engineering, marker layouts, and cutting methods to maximize efficiency.
- Analyze all cost components of garments, including fabric, trims, labor, overhead, duties, and logistics.
- Benchmark labor costs across different vendors and regions; provide country-of-origin costing comparisons to support sourcing strategies.
- Evaluate alternative material and trim options to assess cost savings while maintaining design intent and quality standards.
- Create and maintain internal databases of consumption norms, labor rates, trim costs, and benchmarks by product category, fabric type, and vendor.
- Conduct periodic on-site vendor visits to review cutting room practices and validate efficiency claims.
