1. MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The incumbent will be required to manage a laboratory and site laboratories awarded to the office. He / She will be responsible for all laboratory related tasks, whether itβs on site or in the commercial laboratory. He / She shall be responsible for the implementation, maintenance and improvement of the SGS quality systems.
2. MAIN RESPONISIBILITIES
- Ensure that the laboratory and office functions runs smoothly, with excellent quality of service, the saving of manpower cost, which contribute to accuracy, productivity and profitability;
- Ensure all equipment are cleaned and maintained on a regular basis;
- Ensure materials testing are completed in all laboratory division, including soils, asphalt, seals, concrete, aggregate with bench calculation as and when required for testing;
- Submit quotations and tenders to existing and potential clients.
- Ensure meeting budget and L&C
- annual performance appraisals and training for all reporting staff.
- Responsible to ensure the accreditation and Heath and Safety regulations requirements are adhered to in and around the laboratory
- Responsible for ensuring the correct test methods are followed.
- Verify calibration of equipment according to schedule
- Review and source of resources where necessary
- Complete weekly inspection report;
- Ensure safety in the laboratory β adhering to Health and Safety specifications;
- Assess results of proficiency tests;
- Acquisition of capital equipment and consumables as required by test methods β to be done according to directives.
3. OPERATIONAL INTEGRITY/HEALTH & SAFETY
- Adopt safe behavior at all times, exercising due regard for the health and safety of SGS employees, in accordance with SGS policies and procedures.
- Comply at all times with SGS's Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct.
- Work in accordance with ISO standards and requirements (9001, 17025, 14001 and 45001).
- Report all hazards, near misses and incidents.
- Always wear relevant PPE and comply with health and safety regulations.
- Participate in monthly safety talk with team members.
- Ensure that all waste produced by SGS is disposed of in an environmentally sustainable manner.
- Optimize resources in order to protect the environment.
- Cease the use of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard or entry to hazardous environments without the necessary knowledge and protection and take action to address the hazard.
- Cease to carry on with work that may affect the quality (integrity) of services and take action to address the issue.
- Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation of the system occurs, possible improvements are identified or when nonconformity is identified.
