PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as the Radiation Protection Officer to the Natural Resources business line on all NNR related areas as per local NORM procedures and NNR RD Documents.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct surveys and hazards assessments of radiation hazards pertaining to all operational conditions.
- The establishment, implementation, and maintenance of the Radiation Protection Programme and the administrative system associated therewith, including (Health register, dose register, area classification control, respiratory protection programme, a radiation and contamination surveillance programme, a dosimetry programme, ALARA programme with ALARA objectives, system for controlling doses on a day-to-day basis & training programmes)
- The identification and quantification of all waste arising and it categorization in terms of an established system.
- The maintenance of the system of record keeping
- The maintenance of storage and decontamination facilities.
- The identification of any material that must be transported in terms of the IAEA Transport Regulations
- The establishment, implementation and maintenance of all the practical aspects of the transportation of radioactive materials in accordance with the IAEA transport regulations.
- The establishment and maintenance of record keeping system with respect to transportation requirements.
- The notification of occurrences in accordance with established mechanism.
- The administration and control of an occurrence reporting mechanism
- The maintenance of the aspect of the emergency preparedness program.
- Liaise with management and employees on all levels concerning radiation safety.
- Liaise with the appointed medical practitioner concerning radiation safety.
- Conduct inspections in accordance with the inspection schedule.
- Implementation of the Quality Management Programme and Supporting Procedures
- Travel between the applicable locations on a regular basis to ensure the maintenance and effectiveness of the Radiation Protection Program.
- Provide direct reporting Manager as well as location Management regular updates on visits, audits, NNR inspections etc.
- Adhere and ensure adherence to all safety requirements of the SGS management system.
- Perform any reasonable tasks assigned to the job holder to support the overall H&S strategy.
SPECIFIC AUHORITIES
- Implement & maintain the relevant NORM requirements to assure compliance for applicable sites.
- Conduct NNR related inspections and self-assessments to verify implementation of NORM and compliance with regulatory requirements regarding NORM.
- Provide H&S support to site and functions (e.g. Purchasing) during projects; (e.g. during site expansions, new construction, new equipment purchases, new processes etc.)
- Implement SGS wide H&S activities at the site including Stellar, Safety Month, Quarterly Campaigns, Best Practice Sharing, SGS Rules for Life, Stop Work Authority, BBS, etc. to assure compliance with OIMS and Country regulatory requirements.
- Cease the use of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard or entry to hazardous environments without the necessary knowledge and protection and take action to address the hazard.
- Cease to carry on with work that may affect the quality (integrity) of services and take action to address the issue.
- Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation of the system occurs, possible improvements are identified or when nonconformity is identified.
