JOB OVERVIEW
GENERAL PROGRAM SUPPORT BY THE ESTIMATOR
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Reviewing project plans and specifications to determine the scope of work and materials needed.
- Preparing cost estimates, including labor, material, and equipment costs, based on project specifications and historical data.
- Analyzing vendor and supplier quotes to determine the most cost-effective solutions.
- Working with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to identify cost-saving opportunities and ensure that projects are completed within budget.
- Preparing and submitting proposals and bids to potential clients.
- Participating in negotiations with clients and vendors to establish project pricing.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of project costs, expenses, and other financial data.
- Continuously improving cost estimating processes and methodologies.
- Staying up-to-date on industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to cost estimating.
- Managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field; however, an associate's degree or equivalent work experience may be accepted.
- 5 years experience in construction, manufacturing, or a related field, with a strong understanding of materials, labor, and equipment costs.
- Must have strong technical skills, including proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, cost estimating software, and other relevant tools.
- Must have strong math skills, including the ability to perform complex calculations, analyze data, and interpret financial information.
- Must have a high level of attention to detail, including the ability to identify errors and inconsistencies in project plans and specifications.
- Must have strong communication skills to effectively communicate with project managers, engineers, vendors, and clients, and to present cost estimates and proposals in a clear and concise manner.
- Must have strong analytical skills to analyze data, identify cost-saving opportunities, and make informed decisions.
- Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Overall, must have a combination of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and communication abilities to accurately estimate the costs of projects and ensure that they are completed within budget.
- Must also be able to work effectively in teams and be committed to continuous improvement and professional development.
- (CEP) Certified Estimating Professional Certification is a plus.
- Must adhere to the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering's ethical guidelines.
