We are seeking an experienced Data Migration Consultant to support a large鈥憇cale data migration programme. This role focuses on understanding data, agreeing migration rules, and ensuring data quality, while working closely with clients, delivery teams, and testers to ensure data is migrated accurately and in line with business expectations.
The successful candidate will have a good grounding in data concepts, with some technical capability and a clear desire to grow and pick up technical tasks over time, particularly around data querying and validation.
This role bridges business understanding and technical delivery and is suited to someone who enjoys working across both worlds.
Key Responsibilities
- Map users from legacy systems to the new target system, ensuring continuity of access, roles, and permissions.
- Map data structures between legacy and target platforms, including fields, relationships, and dependencies.
- Map UI and logical system areas, supporting understanding of how data and functionality transition into the new system.
- Work with clients and stakeholders to agree data and migration rules, ensuring they reflect real operational and reporting needs.
- Understand and document business rules, ensuring appropriate validation and consistency across the migration.
- Feed agreed rules, mappings, and assumptions to engineering teams, ensuring clarity and traceability.
- Support data validation and assurance activities, including reviewing data outputs and helping to investigate issues.
- Use SQL or similar querying tools to explore data, support validation, and understand migration outcomes (with support where needed).
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of the importance of data quality, including accuracy, completeness, consistency, and integrity.
- Support QA and testing activities, including UAT, by helping investigate and resolve data鈥憆elated issues.
- Identify, raise, and track data risks, issues, and dependencies, clearly communicating impacts to stakeholders.
- Produce and maintain clear documentation, including data mappings, rules, assumptions, and migration decisions.
