The ServiceNow SAM Specialist is responsible for endâtoâend Software Asset Management across the organization, leveraging ServiceNow to accurately discover, normalize, and optimize software assets. This role ensures audit readiness and license compliance, drives cost savings via entitlement optimization, and partners closely with stakeholders across cross functional teams and business units. Strong documentation, communication, and project management capability are essential to deliver measurable value through SAM processes and tooling.
Additionally, candidates should demonstrate experience in leading ITAM initiatives, optimizing software asset utilization, and implementing best practices to enhance operational efficiency. Strong analytical skills, project management experience, and familiarity with ITAM tools and frameworks are also required.
This level of experience ensures that the candidate can effectively manage complex IT asset environments and contribute to the overall strategic goals of the organization.
Additional information:
Manage end-to-end Software Asset Management (SAM) lifecycle using ServiceNow.
- Own the full SAM lifecycle: discovery â normalization â reconciliation â remediation â optimization.
- Configure and maintain ServiceNow SAM Pro for license models, entitlements, and compliance.
- Ensure audit readiness and maintain Effective License Position (ELP).
- Identify unused/underused licenses; implement automated reclamation and rightâsizing.
- Recommend alternative licensing models, consolidation, or deâduplication
- Establish and maintain policy standards for software requests, approvals, deployment, and retirement.
- Serve as SAM subjectâmatter expert to business, IT Ops, procurement, vendor management, finance.
- Translate technical findings into clear business impacts (risk, cost, timelines); drive decisionâmaking.
- Facilitate governance forums and publish periodic SAM scorecards.
- Prepare and lead internal/external software audits (e.g., Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle, IBM).
- Maintain a current Effective License Position (ELP) for top publishers, document compliance posture and variances.
- Implement controls and processes for trueâup cycles, renewals, and midâterm adjustments.
- Communicate with stakeholders across IT, procurement, and finance.
- Prepare and maintain documentation (SOPs, audit artifacts, reports).
- Drive optimization and cost savings through license reclamation and usage analysis.
- Apply project management practices for SAM initiatives and governance.
- Handsâon ServiceNow SAM including configuration, reconciliation, optimization, and audit support.
- Strong understanding of software licensing models (SAP, IBM, Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle, etc.).
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency in documentation and reporting.
- Knowledge of project management methodologies.
- Strong analytical mindset with attention to data quality, normalization, and rootâcause analysis.
