At LinkedIn, our approach to flexible work is centered on trust and optimized for culture, connection, clarity, and the evolving needs of our business. The work location of this role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from a LinkedIn office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team.
Reporting to the VP of Online Infrastructure, this role will be based in Mountain View, CA, and will lead an organization of approximately 50 engineers and managers.
The Derived Data Systems team is a cornerstone of LinkedIn's data-driven ecosystem, responsible for architecting, building, and operating the high-performance platforms that create and manage high-value, queryable assets used by nearly every product on the site.
This team's charter spans two mission-critical platforms:
Graph Database (Liquid): The backbone for most LinkedIn products, providing the definitive source for all connections data. It supports real-time, high-QPS graph queries across a massive, highly connected dataset, powering features like Feed Personalization and core applications that leverage member connections.
Online Analytics: A large-scale analytics platform (utilizing technologies like Pinot) that enables critical product insights, powering features such as Who Viewed My Profile, Creator Analytics, and various Enterprise products.
As Director, you will drive the technical vision and organizational strategy for the next generation of these systems. This includes leading the strategic development of Liquid v2 to further improve scale, performance, efficiency, and usability, as well as the modernization of our analytics platform to a cloud-native, multi-engine architecture (e.g., using technologies like ClickHouse).
Roles and Responsibilities:
Define the long-term technical vision and product roadmap for LinkedIn's core Graph Database and Online Analytics platforms.
Lead and mentor a high-performing organization of engineering managers and senior technical leaders (totaling ~50 people), fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and engineering excellence.
Drive the execution of multi-year, strategic initiatives, including the development of Liquid v2 and the migration to a modern, cloud-native analytics architecture.
Partner closely with product engineering, other infrastructure teams, and executive leadership to ensure the platforms meet the demanding scale, performance, efficiency, and usability requirements of LinkedIn's global member base and customer products.
Ensure the reliability, security, and operational excellence of mission-critical derived data systems operating at massive scale.
