Position Summary
We are looking for a mid-level Bio-IT Bioinformatics Specialist with strong hands-on experience in Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT), Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), and Sanger sequencing. The ideal candidate has a track record of developing or optimizing analytical workflows, troubleshooting sequencing data issues, and integrating new tools and methods to advance genomic analysis capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize bioinformatics workflows for ONT, NGS, and Sanger sequencing data.
- Support the expansion of service offerings by implementing novel data analysis methods and tools.
- Perform quality control, alignment, variant calling, and annotation for diverse sequencing projects.
- Collaborate with wet-lab scientists, software engineers, and project managers to deliver high-quality genomic analyses.
- Host or participate in virtual meetings with key customers to provide technical support, discuss results, or assist with project planning as required.
- Evaluate and benchmark new sequencing technologies and software solutions.
- Document and communicate methods, results, and improvements clearly and effectively.
- Assist in the design of custom bioinformatics solutions tailored to client needs.
- Stay up to date on bioinformatics advances and incorporate them into company workflows as appropriate.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of hands-on experience analyzing data from ONT, NGS, and Sanger sequencing platforms.
- Proficiency in at least multiple programming languages (e.g., Python, R, Bash).
- Experience with workflow management tools.
- Familiarity with common bioinformatics tools (e.g., MinKNOW, Guppy, BWA, GATK, samtools, bcftools).
- Proficiency in multiple programming languages Python, C++, Java, R, Julia, Shell, or C/C++
- Proficiency in distributed computing and reports generation using tools like Map/Reduce, Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Impala, Pig, Scala, Scalding, Scoobi, and Shark.
- Strong understanding of genomics, sequencing technologies, and variant interpretation.
- Demonstrated ability to innovate and develop new analytics approaches or pipelines.
- Excellent communication and team collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in cloud computing environments.
- Familiarity with regulatory and clinical data analysis standards (e.g., CLIA, CAP).
- Background in microbial, human, or environmental genomics projects.
- Experience writing documentation, training materials, or contributing to open-source projects.
