The Business Line Controller is a key member of the leadership team and the principal financial steward for the business line. Acting as a strategic advisor to Operations and Executive Management, this role ensures the reliability of financial reporting while delivering forward鈥憀ooking analysis that shapes business priorities and accelerates performance.
Beyond financial leadership, the Business Line Controller develops talent, champions operational excellence, and drives continuous improvement initiatives across the business. This position requires a combination of strategic insight, advanced financial competency, and strong leadership presence in a professional services setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Proactively partner with Operations Leaders to help manage the business through KPI trending and analysis, opportunity assessment and risk identification and mitigation, backlog strength and working capital management.
- Administer the annual budget cycle and the in-year forecast cycles with the Operations Leaders.
- Understand and able to educate Operation partners on Percentage of Completion (POC) methodology, Margin Retention, and delivering As-Sold expectations.
- Manage variation order logs in the business to quantify impact on margin erosion and recovery opportunities.
- Review and assess Accounts Receivable and Work in Progress balances for timely invoicing and collection, and highlight risks to business leaders.
- Monitor and review the income statement to ensure transactions are correct and balances are accurate.
- Monitor and review key accounts in the Balance Sheet to confirm alignment with subledgers and prepare working paper reconciliations as needed.
- Actively participate in internal and external audits and prepare or provide supporting documentation.
- Manage, support, and develop a team of Project Accountants to deliver accurate project financial information and ensure adherence to financial controls.
- Administer the performance review cycle for direct reports and regularly provide feedback on performance for career growth and continuous improvement.
- Ability to analyze data and communicate findings effectively.
- Assist and review the financial build-up of bids and challenge the Bid team as needed.
