The Sr. Tax Coordinator is a senior-level tax professional responsible for managing complex sales and use tax compliance activities across multiple jurisdictions. This role serves as a subject-matter expert, ensuring accurate tax reporting, supporting audits, and providing guidance on taxability, exemptions, and process improvements. The position works cross-functionally with Finance, Accounting, and Operations to maintain compliance and reduce tax risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and interpret sales and use tax laws, regulations, and rulings to ensure compliance
- Serve as a point of escalation for complex taxability issues, nexus determinations, and exemption analysis
- Assist with sales tax audits, including document preparation, auditor communication, and issue resolution
- Review and maintain exemption certificates; ensure proper documentation and compliance
- Reconcile tax accounts, identify discrepancies, and resolve variances
- Assist with system implementations, tax engine configuration, and ongoing maintenance (e.g., ERP or tax automation tools)
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and assess impact on the business
- Develop and document tax processes, controls, and procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy
- Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to junior tax staff
