The Team Youâll Work With:
The NYC World Cup team is responsible for ensuring that the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches held in NY/NY take place smoothly and safely, and to identify opportunities for engagement across the five boroughs.
The Problems Youâll Solve:
Weâre seeking a Director to join our team on a temporary basis, March â August 1, 2026 (approximate), to lead the planning and delivery of inclusive, community-based public programming tied to the FIFA World Cup. This role will focus on creating accessible neighborhood experiences that engage residents, businesses, and visitors across the city. The ideal candidate will bring significant experience in event planning, tourism, or community programming and a strong commitment to public service.
The Director of NYC World Cup Activations will report to the NYC World Cup Czar and work closely with other members of the team, including the Executive Director for World Cup Operations. This role will conclude in August 2026.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a citywide strategy for public World Cup watch parties and related community activations.
- Coordinate with Business Improvement Districts (BIDs), plaza partners, cultural institutions, and community-based organizations to support existing events and establish new ones, with an emphasis on equitable geographic distribution
- Oversee site selection, logistics, accessibility, safety planning, and operational delivery for public events.
- Build and manage a citywide volunteer program, including recruitment, training, scheduling, and supervision.
- Manage external vendors, budgets, timelines, and performance tracking for activation initiatives.
- Ensure all programming is welcoming, culturally responsive, and accessible to diverse communities.
- Build and maintain a comprehensive calendar of World Cup activations.
- Serve as liaison to City agencies to coordinate and support agency World Cup activations (DOT, SBS, MOME).

- You have demonstrated experience coordinating multi-stakeholder initiatives, preferably in the public or nonprofit sector.
- You have strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Bachelorâs Degree required.
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in large-scale event production, tourism, community programming, or a related field.
