Why This Role Matters?
- The DCS (Distributed Control System) & Instrumentation Engineer is essential to keeping the sewage treatment plant running safely, reliably, and efficiently. This role ensures that all automation, control systems, and instruments work correctly鈥攑rotecting people, the environment, and plant performance.
What You Will Drive
A DCS & Instrumentation Engineer with strong expertise in Yokogawa DCS (e.g., CENTUM/Prosafe) and SCADA systems for sewage treatment plant operations. The role involves end鈥憈o鈥慹nd responsibility for process control, instrumentation asset reliability, and industrial communications, with a particular focus on maintaining the health and performance of Profibus (DP/PA) networks. The engineer must have experience working in corrosive, H鈧係鈥憄rone STP environments, ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, continuous operations, and overall optimization of plant performance.
- DCS / SCADA & Control Systems
- Administer, operate, and optimize Yokogawa DCS, including control strategies, graphics, alarms, trends, historian tags, and backup/restore.
- Maintain and enhance SCADA interfaces, dashboards, and reporting for O&M and compliance KPIs.
- Develop, test, and implement logic modifications (loop tuning, interlocks, permissives, sequences) with strict MOC procedures.
- Manage alarm rationalization and limit settings to reduce nuisance alarms and improve operator effectiveness.
- Coordinate factory and site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT) for control system changes and expansions.
- Instrumentation
- Own the lifecycle of field instruments, including selection, installation, calibration, loop checks, diagnostics, and replacement.
- Typical devices include DO, pH/ORP, turbidity/SS, ammonium/nitrate, chlorine, flow (magnetic/ultrasonic), pressure, level (radar/ultrasonic), vibration, temperature, and gas detection.
- Profibus DP/PA & Industrial Communication
- Ensure Profibus DP/PA network reliability, including topology design, segment diagnostics, termination, shielding/earthing, redundancy, spur lengths, baud rates, device addressing, and GSD management.
- Use diagnostic tools (e.g., bus analyzers) to identify noise, reflections, voltage drops, telegram errors, and intermittent faults.
- Integrate field devices via Profibus PA couplers/links, gateways, and interfaces to Yokogawa DCS/SCADA; maintain device libraries.
- Collaborate with electrical and control teams for EMI mitigation, proper cable routing, and panel/earthing standards.
- Support interfaces with MCCs/VFDs, PLC skids, and plant SCADA/IMS/CMMS systems.
- Safety, Compliance & Cybersecurity
- Ensure all DCS/SIS activities comply with plant safety standards, IEC standards, and cybersecurity policies.
- Strengthen OT cybersecurity posture through access control reviews, patch management, and secure network segmentation.
- Develop a long鈥憈erm DCS roadmap covering upgrades, expansions, and obsolescence risks (software and hardware).
