As part of AECOM’s Transit & Rail business, the Architect – Underground (UG) supports the full design lifecycle for below-ground metro stations, ancillary structures, and passenger environments. The role blends architecture, urban design, and multi-disciplinary coordination to ensure our underground assets are safe, resilient, accessible, and user-centred. Based in-house with periodic site visits, you will interface daily with structural, MEP, systems, and construction teams to turn design intent into buildable solutions.
Job Duties:
- Develop architectural concepts, layouts, sections, and details for underground stations, concourses, ventilation shafts, and ancillary spaces.
- Translate functional requirements (passenger flow, safety, egress, fire-life safety, wayfinding) into robust design solutions that meet client and code standards.
- Integrate structural, geotechnical, E&M, and systems inputs into coherent BIM models.
- Lead/attend IDCs, clash-resolution and design review workshops, ensuring architectural intent is preserved while accommodating engineering constraints.
- Interpret and apply national / international building codes (NBC, NFPA, NFPA 130, IS codes) and metro rail guidelines (CMRS/MoHUA, NFPA 101).
- Prepare and validate life-safety strategies, accessibility provisions (UNCRPD/NBC), and sustainable design measures (IGBC/LEED/Mobility).
- Produce high-quality drawings, BIM models (Revit), specifications, and material schedules at Concept, Scheme, Detailed Design, GFC, and As-Built stages.
- Maintain issue registers, revision logs, and design calculation files for quality audits.
- Present designs to clients, authorities, and internal leadership; assimilate feedback and drive approvals.
- Liaise with contractors during construction to clarify RFI/RFCs and support field adjustments.
- Embed universal design, energy efficiency, fire-life safety, and material durability in every submission.
- Champion BIM 360, ISO 19650, and AECOM’s Quality Management System.
- Guide junior architects and CAD/BIM technologists on underground-specific detailing and workflows.
- Contribute to lessons-learned sessions and continuous-improvement initiatives.
