Staff Engineer, Functional Safety
Analog DevicesIndustrialAutomationBusinessUnit is working to enablethe digitaltransformation within manufacturing and process control. As we move towards the digitaledgeADI hasambitious plans to support our customers in areas including functional safety and cyber security.
The team has an opening foran experienced Functional Safety Engineer with strongexpertisein electric motorandmotion control applications, and/or robotics. This role will lead functional safety development for innovativesolutions atboard/module level includingembedded softwareand integrated circuits,inindustrialapplication such as motor control and servo drives, robotics and autonomous industrial systems.
In this role, you will be expected to help develop,implement, and deliver a consistent and scalable functional safety strategyfor the specific application.
You will own and drive the creation of functional safety work products—including safety concepts and architectures, FMEDA and quantitative safety analyses, safety manuals,requirementsand test strategies, as well as software test libraries and safety mechanisms.
The ability to employ systems thinking and collaboratewith system architects, IC designers, software teams, and application experts to ensureend-to-endfunctional safety complianceis important, as is the ability to present functional safety concepts to ourcustomers.toendfunctional safety compliance
While the core of the role is functional safety, our customers also need support in related areas including intrinsic safety, electrical safety, and cyber security. Existing knowledge in these areas is valuable, but training opportunities will be provided if needed.
Your Qualifications:
MinimumBS/BEng in Electrical, Electronic or Computer Engineering; MSEE or MSCE
Experience and Skills
Experience architecting functionally safe systems for industrial automation, motion control, or roboticsbased on IEC 61508 orISO13849.
Experience with robot safety functions or concepts (e.g.Stopping function including safe torque off, Monitoring function such as safely limited speed)
Strong understanding of safety mechanisms relevant to motor control, power electronics, and servo drives.
Familiarity with IEC 62443 industrial cyber security principles.
Experience with modulelevel orboard levelindustrial products (motor drives, sensors).
Experience in developing andmaintainingfunctional safety work products (preferably in a lead role).
Demostratedstrong problem-solving skills withanApplication-and System-levelmindset
Good verbal and written English communication skills to work effectively with teams spread across theglobeand work with our industrial customers in Europe,USand Asia
