About Us:
Here at Ambience, we never set out to be just another scribe. We’re building the AI intelligence platform that restores humanity to healthcare and drives meaningful ROI for health systems across the country.
Our technology helps providers focus on delivering great care by removing the administrative burden that pulls them away from patients and away from their most impactful work. Ambience delivers real-time coding-aware documentation and clinical workflow support across ambulatory, emergency and inpatient settings at the top health systems in North America.
Our teams operate relentlessly with extreme ownership to build the best solutions for our health system partners. We value candor, positivity and deep thought — and we expect a lot from each other because we know the problems we’re solving truly matter.
Ambience was ranked #1 for Improving the Clinician Experience in the KLAS Research Emerging Solutions Top 20 Report, recognized by Fast Company as one of the Next Big Things in Tech, named one of the best AI companies in healthcare by Inc., and selected as a LinkedIn Top Startup in 2024 and 2025. We’re backed by Oak HC/FT, Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), OpenAI Startup Fund, and Kleiner Perkins — and we’re just getting started.
Reports to: Ambience President, Co-Founder, and Chairman - Mike Ng
Work Location: San Francisco HQ (Hybrid, 3+ days onsite)
The Office of the President exists to answer Ambience’s hardest questions: where the company is going, how it wins its category, and what must be true for Ambience to become the defining healthcare AI platform by 2030.
This office is not a functional team and not an additional management layer. It is a problem‑solving nucleus built to help the President see the future more clearly, architect the best possible version of Ambience, and move the company decisively toward it. The Chief of Staff is the core operating partner within that office.
In this role, you help drive trajectory‑changing decisions - the choices that materially shape Ambience’s long‑term direction, ecosystem position, and competitive advantage. These include decisions around platform evolution, strategic partnerships, market sequencing, external relationships, and moments where speed, judgment, and leverage matter more than consensus.
You do not own strategy in a vacuum, nor do you operate with predefined lanes. Instead, you take the beginnings of direction from the President – a working hypothesis, a voice memo, a conversation – and turn it into concrete progress: framing the problem, gathering signal, aligning the right people, and driving execution until a real decision or outcome is reached.
Some weeks you will quarterback multi‑threaded initiatives across senior leaders and external partners. Other weeks, you will personally own and execute critical work end‑to‑end. Priorities will shift. Timelines will compress. The work will often be confidential, urgent, and high‑stakes.
This role is for someone who genuinely wants to be at the tip of the spear – working on the most important things in the company, at the moment they matter most.
President Leverage & Decision Support
Act as the President’s strategic and operational right hand on the company’s most critical initiatives
Translate high-level direction (e.g., voice memos, working sessions, early hypotheses and rough ideas) into clear plans, decisions, and execution
Prepare pre-reads, frameworks, and analyses that directly inform executive decision-making
Trajectory-Changing Initiatives
Own or quarterback the most important projects in the company, often with little notice
Lead fast-moving, high-stakes workstreams involving senior internal leaders and external executives (e.g., hyperscalers, foundation model partners, health system CEOs)
Navigate confidential, time-sensitive initiatives including partnerships, negotiations, and strategic pivots
Cross-Functional Orchestration
Bring structure, momentum, and accountability to complex, multi-threaded efforts
Align stakeholders across Product, Engineering, GTM, Legal, Finance, and external partners
Identify bottlenecks early and creatively remove them
Problem Solving Under Ambiguity
Take loosely defined problems and impose clarity, sequencing, and decision logic
Rapidly gather signal, test hypotheses, and adapt direction as new information emerges
Operate comfortably across altitudes – from executive narrative to detailed execution
Must Have
5+ years of experience in consulting, strategy, BizOps, investing, or high-impact operating roles
Proven ability to solve ambiguous, high-stakes problems with limited direction
Exceptional clarity of thought and communication (especially written)
Experience working closely with senior executives or founders
High judgment, discretion, and comfort handling confidential information
Strong Signals
You are a fast learner who actively seeks out new information and updates your views as you learn – while also valuing feedback, debate, and mentorship from strong partners
You are motivated by getting to the truth, not by being right; you enjoy having your assumptions challenged, are comfortable saying “I don’t know,” and move quickly to find out
You use writing, analysis, and action as tools to create clarity and drive decisions
You follow problems through to real outcomes, even when the work is unglamorous or cross-functional
You operate with low ego and high integrity, prioritizing what’s best for the company over personal scope
You are highly AI-forward: you actively use AI systems to think, learn, analyze, and communicate, operating at roughly a Level 4 AI Fluency (AI as a thinking partner, not just a productivity hack)
Nice to Have
Healthcare, enterprise SaaS, AI, or startup experience
Experience in partnerships, corporate development, or complex negotiations
Experience operating in AI-native environments where decisions are informed by first-principles reasoning, rapid learning loops, and written synthesis (e.g., memos, briefs, or decision docs that materially shaped outcomes)
This role sits at the center of Ambience’s most important work. You will have unmatched exposure to executive decision-making, external ecosystem dynamics, and the hardest problems the company faces.
It is also a demanding role – requiring flexibility, resilience, and a genuine desire to serve the mission above personal scope or autonomy. For the right person, it will be the fastest learning environment in the company and one of the most impactful roles of their career.
The base compensation for this role is approximately $165,000–$220,000 per year, excluding equity or bonus targets. We intentionally offer a wide range to support flexibility around cash and equity. We believe strongly in equity ownership and want team members to share meaningfully in the impact they create.
If you’re outside this range, we still encourage you to apply – we take an individualized approach to compensation that considers the full picture.
